Kolkata: Three bike-borne miscreants snatched a gold chain from a 65-year-old resident of Baishnab Seth Street, Shreyasi Ray on Tuesday, while the victim was out for a walk in the morning. Police have launched an investigation into the matter. The incident took place along Nimtala Ghat Street under the jurisdiction of Jorabagan Police Station.Ray had left her home around 4:30 am for a walk. In front of Gyan Bharati School, the three unidentified men approached her from behind. One of the riders snatched her gold chain.The victim stated that due to the sudden nature of the attack, she was unable to note the registration number of the vehicle. In her statement to the police, she described all three suspects as thin in build and appearing to be over 22 years of age. The Jorabagan Police registered a FIR under Sections 304(2) (snatching) and 54 (abetment or common intention) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).“The woman had received minor injuries due to the sudden pull on her neck from behind but she did not lose her balance. She said that this was probably the first such incident in the area. We are attaching importance to the case as it involved street crime and also the security of women and morning walkers. We have reviewed the security of morning and evening walkers in the area and are doing the needful,” said an officer at Lalbazar.Cops confirmed that a probe is currently underway to identify and apprehend the suspects, as well as to recover the stolen property. Sub-Inspector Paban Kumar Thakur has been appointed as the Investigating Officer (I.O.) for the case.Police officers are reviewing CCTV footage from security cameras installed along Nimtala Ghat Street and adjoining routes to trace the movement and escape path of the motorcycle.
