Chandigarh: For the second consecutive year, Panjab University (PU) has allowed undergraduate students carrying up to three reappear or compartment papers to seek admission to postgraduate and postgraduate diploma courses in its affiliated colleges for the 2026-27 academic session.According to a notification issued by the deputy registrar (colleges) Wednesday, candidates with up to three reappear papers from the first to sixth semesters of undergraduate programmes, including BA, BCom, BSc, BBA and BCA, will be eligible for PG admissions.The relaxation applies to courses such as MA, MSc, MCom, MCom (BE), MBA (CIT), MCom (entrepreneurship and family business), MFDM, MCom (innovation) and postgraduate diploma programmes offered by affiliated colleges.PU, however, has made it clear that students admitted under the provision must clear all pending undergraduate papers during the first year of their postgraduate studies. Those who fail to do so will not be promoted to the third semester under the semester system.The notification further states that students enrolled in postgraduate diploma courses will receive their diploma only after clearing all pending papers of their undergraduate degree.The decision gives students with a limited number of backlogs an opportunity to continue higher education without losing an academic year, while making their continuation in the PG programme contingent on clearing all outstanding undergraduate papers.The notification has been circulated to principals of all PU-affiliated colleges for implementation during the ongoing admission session.
