MUMBAI: Following reports of three newborn deaths at BMC-run Rajawadi Hospital, Ghatkopar, within a 24-hour span, civic officials clarified there was no delay in treating the three pregnant women.Hospital authorities told civic health committee chairman Harish Bhandarge that two of the cases involved intrauterine fetal deaths, while the third baby died less than two hours after birth. In the first case, doctors examining a 37-week pregnant woman found no fetal heartbeat.Subsequent scans confirmed intrauterine fetal death. In the second case, a pregnant woman with diabetes and hypertension, who had missed multiple scheduled check-ups, was found to have suffered an intrauterine fetal death after a sonography.In the third case, a woman underwent a Caesarean section at 40 weeks of pregnancy. The newborn developed bradycardia and was shifted to the NICU after resuscitation. However, the baby died less than two hours after birth. tnn
