Nagpur: Ramtek police arrested three persons within 12 hours after an unidentified person was killed in a hit and run accident case which also involved animal cruelty.The incident occurred around midnight on May 21 on Tumsar-Ramtek Road opposite Tidke College. A speeding SUV rammed into a roadside shop, killing one person who was standing nearby. The SUV driver and his accomplices abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene.Police discovered six cattle crammed in the SUV. The animals were tied tightly with ropes to their horns and legs. There was no fodder or water for the cattle, which apparently were being transported for slaughter.A case was registered at Ramtek police station under Sections 105, 106(1), 281 and 3(5) of BNS, along with relevant sections of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act and the Maharashtra Animal Preservation Act.Acting on instructions from SP Harssh A Poddar, Ramtek police and the local crime branch launched parallel investigations. Based on technical evidence and confidential information, the three accused were arrested from Nagpur city on Friday. They have been remanded in police custody till May 25.
