Rourkela: Police have started an investigation into a case of alleged ragging and assault of six Class IX students by nine seniors at the hostel of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya in Deogarh district, in which three of them were injured.A complaint in this regard was lodged at Deogarh Town police station on Wednesday night by the father of one of the victims. “We have registered a case and started an investigation,” said Sabyasachi Satpathy, inspector in charge of Deogarh Town police station.School principal Uttam Prasad said an internal inquiry is also underway. “A committee has been constituted to probe into the incident. The inquiry is in progress, and action will be taken based on its findings,” he said.According to sources, four Class XII and five Class XI students allegedly entered the hostel room of six Class IX boarders on Tuesday night and subjected them to ragging before assaulting them.After they reported the matter to the school principal on Wednesday, the injured students were sent for treatment. Later, all six victims were taken home by their parents. The nine accused senior students were also asked to leave the campus.Sources said the alleged assault was an act of retaliation after the parents of some junior students reportedly informed school authorities that a few Class XI and XII students were using mobile phones in the hostel, which is prohibited under school rules.
