Varanasi: Lanka police on Tuesday arrested three youths, who had allegedly opened fire at a student on hostel road on BHU campus on Feb 21. The incident sparked massive protest.Lanka police station in charge Rajkumar Sharma said Piyush Tiwari of Rohtas, Rishabh Rai and Tapas Rai of Kaimur in Bihar, were arrested from Patna and brought here on Tuesday evening. Search for their two accomplices was in progress, he added. Police recovered the pistol used in the incident from the trio, on whom a cash reward of Rs 25,000 was announced. On Feb 21 night, the accused opened indiscriminate fire with the intent to kill the complainant Roshan Mishra and his companions near Birla A hostel on BHU campus. The incident sparked massive protest and police had to work hard to pacify the situation. With the help of surveillance inputs and CDR, police traced location of the accused to Sultanganj police station area in Patna, Bihar. All three were staying in a rented room at their friend’s place. Police conducted a raid and arrested them. During interrogation, the main accused Piyush Tiwari revealed that he was an MA 1st year student at BHU. He had a dispute with Roshan Mishra and his companions. Mishra and his companions beat up Tiwari, in response to which, he and his friends Rishabh Rai and Tapas Rai fired four rounds at Roshan Mishra and his companions. After the incident, all accused were hiding at different locations in Bihar.
