Surat: A 29-year-old woman was allegedly molested by a man and his accomplice during a Ganesh Agman procession at a residential society in Udhna on the night of Sep 10, police said.According to the FIR registered at Udhna police station on Sunday, the woman had gone to watch the Ganesh Agman procession with other women from her housing society at around 10pm, when the incident took place. A man identified as a former resident of the society allegedly made obscene gestures at her and asked for her mobile number.The accused approached the woman while dancing and touched her inappropriately around her waist. She moved away from him and later informed her husband about the incident.When her husband confronted the accused and his accomplice, they threatened him, leading to a verbal altercation. They also assaulted the woman’s husband.The woman approached the police, citing fear of social stigma as the reason for the delay in filing the complaint.Police have registered a case under Sections 75(2), 115(2), 351(2), 352 and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and have launched an investigation.
