Nagpur: Nearly 29 months after approving a ₹37.32-crore Akhil Bharatiya OBC Bhavan in Nagpur, the state govt has released ₹10 crore as the first tranche for the project. The construction will be undertaken by Nagpur Improvement Trust (NIT).The Bhavan is proposed on around 1,054.80 sq metres at Mouza Babulkheda-Mouza Ajni in the Empress Mill Co-operative Housing Society area. The remaining ₹27.32 crore will be released in subsequent stages. Though the project falls within Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) limits and was sanctioned under a municipal corporation area development scheme, the govt resolution (GR) specifically names NIT as the implementing agency, with the district administration in charge of the funds. The Nagpur collector has been designated the controlling officer, while the district joint commissioner will serve as the drawing and disbursing officer. The funds will be transferred to NIT for the sanctioned work. The GR prohibits diversion or deduction of the allocation and directs authorities to ensure full utilisation of funds previously released under the same budget head. Any amount remaining unspent after the stipulated period must be returned to the govt along with interest. The order, however, does not specify a construction deadline or a timeline for release of the remaining funds.
