Berhampur: Altogether 260 missing persons, including 25 children, were rescued by police in Ganjam and Kandhamal districts during the five-day special drive of Anweshan-III executed from July 18 to 22. While Kandhamal police rescued 138 missing people, Ganjam police rescued 122 people.Among them was a woman who was missing since last 10 years from a village in Kandhamal district. The woman was rescued from another village in the district. “After being rescued, we produced her before the child welfare committee. She was united with her family,” said Smita Jena, inspector-in charge, Sarangada police station.“Special squads from the Integrated Anti-Human Trafficking Unit (IAHTU) and Crime Against Women and Children Wing (CAW and CW), along with female officers and others were part of the drive,” said SP (Kandhamal) Ramendra Prasad.

The rescued women and children have been provided with counselling and reunited with their families, while some have been accommodated in shelter homes. Police teams travelled to Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and Tamil Nadu to trace the missing persons, SP (Ganjam) Harish BC.
