Chennai: Police have arrested a 25-year-old software engineer for breaking open the lock of a jewellery pawn shop at Indira Nagar to commit theft. The accused, Sriram Srinu Babu, was caught by the public and the pawn shop owner after he attempted to steal from the shop and was handed over to police.Early on Friday morning, Mangalsandh, 63, the pawn shop owner was informed by locals of an attempt by a person to break open the lock of his shop. Hearing this, Mangalsandh rushed to the spot, and found the shop’s lock was broken and the accused was inside the shop. With the help of locals, Mangalsandh caught the accused and informed the police.The police registered a case and seized a mobile phone, a cutting machine, hammer, drilling machine and a screwdriver from the accused. Police said that Sriram, a native of Nellore in Andhra Pradesh, worked at an IT firm in Perungudi.Sriram was produced before the court on Saturday and remanded to prison.
