The pillar fell near the residence of local resident Soni Devi around 12:30 pm on Tuesday. The victims, 7-year-old Nidhi Kumari and Krishna Kumar, were playing nearby when they were struck and critically injured. Locals and family members rushed them first to Navgachhia sub-divisional hospital. Due to their grave condition, doctors referred them to Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College and Hospital (Mayaganj), where both were declared dead on arrival.
