While the Neelankarai incident was reported on Feb 22, the JJ Nagar incident was reported on Tuesday.In the incident at JJ Nagar, police arrested a 26-year-old man on Tuesday for the murder of a 50-year-old woman in Mogappair East. Police said Sheikh, a plumber from Madurai district who lives in Mogappair East, was arrested following the discovery of the woman’s body near a bakery shop on Church Street on Tuesday morning.On Monday night, Sheikh, who was intoxicated, attacked the woman with an iron rod in a secluded area. The woman, whose identity is yet to be ascertained, was a rag picker who was staying on the pavement in the area.On Tuesday morning, neighbours informed JJ Nagar police that a man and a woman were lying near the entrance of a bakery shop on Church Street. Police found the woman dead at the scene.The body was sent to Kilpauk Govt Medical College Hospital for post-mortem examination. Police arrested Sheikh and registered a murder case against him. He was produced before a magistrate court and remanded in judicial custody.In the incident reported in Akkarai near Neelankarai, a guest worker, Sathyendra Kumar, 34, a native of Bihar, was beaten by another guest worker, Deepak Maji, 25, a native of Odisha, following a drunken brawl.Police said Deepak Maji and Sathyendra Kumar were employed as earth mover operators in Akkarai. They consumed alcohol near their makeshift tent on Feb 22. Maji picked a quarrel and attacked Sathyendra Kumar after the latter pushed the former’s liquor bottle, which spilt on the floor.The injured Sathyendra Kumar was admitted to the govt Royapettah Hospital. Neelankarai police registered a case and arrested Deepak Maji on attempted murder charges. The arrested Maji was remanded in judicial custody.End MSID:: 128752880 413 |
