The surgery cost about Rs 5 lakh to Rs 10 lakh in the private sector, said officials. In this condition, the spine bends and twists at extreme angles, making it difficult for patients to lead a normal life.Dr Piyush Mittal, director of the spine institute, said the operations lasted about 4 to 5 hours. “The challenge lies in preserving the nerves around the spine. Where possible, we also used advanced techniques such as a ‘growing rod’, where the support grows with the child, helping them in their formative years,” he said. “The children will be under observation during regular follow-ups.” MSID:: 128758094 413 |
