Srinagar, Jul 27: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Srinagar, Akshay Labroo, on Monday chaired a comprehensive meeting of the District-Level NCORD Committee to review the progress of the intensified anti-drug enforcement drive launched under the 100-Day Jammu & Kashmir Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan in the district, attended by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Srinagar, Dr G.V. Sundeep Chakravarthy.
The meeting was attended by Regional Transport Officer Kashmir Qazi Irfan, Additional Deputy Commissioner Aadil Fareed, SP Headquarters Umar Shah, Joint Commissioner SMC Nuzhat Khurshid, IAS Probationer Alfred Thomas, SDM West Irfan Bahadur, SDM East Zubair Ahmad, Chief Education Officer Ghulam Mohi-Din, DSWO Mohammad Yousuf, and officers from Excise, Drug Control Organisation, DYS&S, heads of ATFs, and other concerned departments.
The meeting was informed that the intensified enforcement operations, coupled with coordinated efforts by the Police, Civil Administration, and other stakeholder departments, have yielded significant outcomes across Srinagar district: 169 FIRs registered, 238 drug peddlers arrested, illegal movable and immovable properties worth about Rs 103 crore linked to drug traffickers attached, 89 bank accounts frozen as part of financial investigations, 101 driving licences suspended, 59 vehicle registration certificates (RCs) suspended, and 70 chemist licences suspended for violations related to narcotics.
Authorities have also recommended suspension of passport and Aadhaar numbers of various accused under relevant laws. The multi-pronged action has focused on dismantling drug trafficking networks, disrupting the financial ecosystem supporting illicit activities, and ensuring strict legal action against those involved in the illegal trade of narcotics.
Reviewing the progress, the Deputy Commissioner and SSP appreciated the coordinated efforts of the Civil Administration, Police, and allied Departments and stressed the need for sustained, intelligence-driven enforcement to eliminate the drug menace and ensure lasting outcomes under the ongoing campaign.
The DC directed all concerned departments to further strengthen inter-departmental coordination and intensify action against drug peddlers and trafficking networks, emphasizing renewed focus and coordinated efforts to curb drug abuse and dismantle the ecosystem supporting narcotics trafficking. He stressed the importance of a multi-pronged strategy combining strict law enforcement with awareness generation, counselling, and rehabilitation measures to effectively tackle the menace of drug abuse, particularly among youth.
The SSP reiterated the commitment of the Police in collaboration with civil authorities towards sustained action against narcotics-related activities and called for active support from the public in identifying and reporting drug-related offences.
