Chennai: Election flying squads seized a total of 21.85 lakh from various individuals across Chennai, including an office-bearer of the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee.Cash amounting to 1.19 lakh was seized from Biju Chacko, North Chennai district secretary of the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee, when he was travelling by car on Cooks Road in Otteri. Upon discovering he was transporting 1.19 lakh without supporting documents, the squad seized the cash and handed it over to the election officer for Thiru Vi Ka Nagar constituency. Near the entrance of Casino Theatre in Chintadripet, the squad seized 94,000 being transported in a car without authorisation. At Secretariat Colony area near Kilpauk, the squad seized 59,000 from Uttar Katara, a native of Odisha. At Chennai Central Railway Station, the railway protection force seized 2.13 lakh from Jitendra Kumar. On Nelson Manickam Road in Aminjikarai, the squad intercepted and searched a car driven by Rajasekar. They seized 17 lakh found in his vehicle as it was being transported without documents.During inquiry, Rajasekar revealed that he works as a collection agent for CMS Pvt Ltd, a cash management service company in Teynampet. He stated he collected cash from various establishments across Chennai and was transporting it to his office.The seized cash was handed over to the income tax department office in Nungambakkam.
