Kanpur: A 20-year-old Agniveer died in a road accident early Wednesday in Auraiya, just a few hours before he was to leave for training, scheduled in Bengaluru on June 27.The victim, Ramji, was returning home on a motorcycle with his father, Shyam Singh (50), and sister, Kusma Devi (23), when a speeding pickup vehicle hit them, throwing them into the air. While Ramji died on the spot, his father and sister sustained serious injuries.According to police, Ramji, along with his father and sister, had taken his mother, Kusma, for an exorcism ritual as she had not been keeping well.The incident occurred near Amela Bamba on the Achhalda–Phaphund road, about 30 km from the district headquarters.On receiving information, Achhalda police reached the spot and the injured were sent to a community health centre by ambulance.They were later referred to a higher centre due to their critical condition.Station in-charge Suresh Chandra Singh said, “The pickup has been taken into custody. The body has been sent for post-mortem. The absconding driver is being searched for and further legal action is being taken.”
