Times News NetworkChandigarh: Cyber Police have registered two separate cases of online cheating in which two city residents lost nearly Rs 2.5 lakh.In the first case, Manish Makkar, a resident of Sector 22, reported losing Rs 1.6 lakh in three transactions after a caller, claiming to be from a prominent airline, allegedly gained remote access to his mobile phone. Makkar said he had come across a Facebook post about the airline membership to get cheaper tickets.He called the number given and was contacted by a person who convinced him to download an application via a link. The caller instructed him to change phone settings, enabling remote access. Later, Makkar discovered deductions from his account. He lodged a complaint at the Cyber Police Station, Sector 17, and a case was registered against unknown persons.In another case, Suddam Inderjeet Singh of Sector 32 said that on May 23, 2026, he received repeated WhatsApp calls from an unknown number claiming his debit card courier had returned. The same day, Rs 75,000 was fraudulently withdrawn from his account.
