Ahmedabad: At least two persons were injured and two vehicles were badly damaged when a speeding car hit a taxi and then a stationary car near Vastrapur lake early on Tuesday. The driver of the car that caused the accident close to the Bharat Petroleum pump was allegedly under the influence of alcohol. He has been identified as Gajendra Patel (22), a resident of Changodar.Nirav Thakkar (42), the driver of the taxi that was hit, stated in his complaint that he was heading towards Vastrapur lake around 4.30am to pick up a passenger. He had reached Shahid Chowk when a speeding hatchback coming from the wrong side crashed into his vehicle head-on, causing it to spin. The car again crashed into the taxi’s rear, damaging its tyres and body. Thakkar told police that the same car also collided with another car and hit two pedestrians, who were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.Thakkar alleged the driver was caught by people and appeared to be intoxicated. Police have registered a case of rash and negligent driving and have also booked the driver under the Prohibition Act.
