Kanpur: Police on Sunday arrested two youths for allegedly killing an unidentified man by assaulting him and repeatedly running a scooter over him in Swaroop Nagar a day earlier.The accused were identified as Ayush Sharma (20) and Ashutosh Kumar (19). They were arrested near a water tanker behind the KDA office after police examined CCTV footage and tracked their location with the help of the cyber cell.Sub-inspector Sanket Taugad said police initially received a UP-112 call reporting that an unidentified man had died in a road accident. When he reached the spot with constable Vineet Kumar, they found the circumstances surrounding the death suspicious and began examining CCTV footage from the area.The footage allegedly showed two scooter-borne men kicking and punching the victim before repeatedly running the two-wheeler over him.During questioning, the accused allegedly told investigators that they had an altercation with the victim after he called them “mad”.According to police, the duo admitted to striking the victim on the head with the butt of a pistol and assaulting him for nearly 15 minutes. They allegedly returned later, attacked him again and ran the scooter over him.Police also recovered a video of the incident from the accused’s mobile phones.DCP (Central) Atul Kumar Srivastava said a case under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) was registered at Swaroop Nagar police station. He added that Sections 3/25 of the Arms Act were invoked after a firearm and a live cartridge were allegedly recovered from Ayush Sharma.“Both accused are being produced before the court after completion of legal formalities,” the DCP said.
