Chennai: A 19-year-old man murdered his 43-year-old mother at their house in Perungudi in the early hours of Monday. Thoraipakkam police arrested the accused.The deceased was identified as Chheni Devi Babulal, 43, a resident of Kurunji Nagar, Perungudi. The accused, Rakesh, 19, is her son.According to police, Babulal, father of the accused, travelled to Rajasthan about 15 days ago, after his uncle’s death. On Sunday night, the family was sleeping in the same room, with Chheni Devi sleeping on the floor.Police said that at around 1am, Rakesh strangled his mother with a piece of cloth and then stabbed her on the left side of her neck with a small kitchen knife.After the incident, Rakesh came out of the house and raised an alarm, asking neighbours to save his mother. A neighbour, Gangaram, contacted the 108 ambulance service. Paramedical personnel examined the woman, declared her dead at the scene and alerted Thoraipakkam police.Inspector Vimal of Thoraipakkam police station, who was on night patrol, reached the house and nabbed Chheni Devi’s son Rakesh, suspected to have been involved in the murder. The body was recovered and sent for post-mortem examination.
