Gurgaon: Haryana’s govt schools have 18,540 vacant posts. The education department has directed the school education and secondary education departments to expedite recruitment to address the shortage.
The directions followed a review meeting, where education minister Mahipal Dhanda directed the departments to prepare a detailed assessment of vacancies and coordinate with Haryana Staff Selection Commission to speed up pending recruitment.
The minister also directed officials to strengthen the recruitment mechanism and ensure that schools have adequate teaching and supporting staff.
The minister said a survey of basic facilities in all govt schools has been completed, and development works are being taken up based on the requirements identified. All eligible schools are to be provided smart classrooms by Nov 2026, while 250 Chief Minister Excellence & Early English Schools (CM EEE Schools) will be developed as model schools under special development schemes offered by the state, Dhanda said.
The education department is also expanding foreign-language teaching in govt schools. With assistance from Goethe-Institut, German classes have started in 26 schools after 60 teachers received training. Another 80 teachers have been selected and are undergoing training.
The NIPUN Haryana Mission, earlier implemented up to Class IV, has now been extended to Class V. Officials have also been directed to strengthen infrastructure and learning support from Balvatika-3, for children aged five to six years, through Class IV and improve enrolment.
Dhanda said school management committees have also been given financial powers to undertake infrastructure-related works costing up to Rs 25 lakh.
Against 1,16,331 sanctioned posts in govt schools across the state, 91,554 regular employees are in position, leaving a shortage of 24,777 regular posts. Of these, 6,237 posts are occupied by guest teachers and other staff, while 18,540 remain vacant, including 8,126 trained graduate teachers; 6,016 postgraduate teachers; 3,051 primary teachers; and 1,347 principal and headmaster posts.
The minister directed officials to take necessary steps to ensure that the recruitment process is completed at the earliest and that govt schools have adequate teaching and support staff.
