Hyderabad: In a shocking incident, a 16-year-old Intermediate student gave birth a stillborn baby girl while appearing for an examination at a govt college in Palvancha in Bhadradri Kothagudem district on Friday. According to police, the girl had come to the examination centre to write her paper. During the exam, she sought permission from the invigilator to use the washroom. When she did not return for a long time, the invigilator alerted staff to check on her. As staff headed towards the washroom, they saw the student returning to the classroom. On being questioned about the delay, the student did not give convincing answers. Later, when housekeeping staff went to clean the washroom, they found a stillborn baby. The college management was immediately informed, and police were alerted. During preliminary inquiry, it was found that the teenager was the last to use the washroom, and the invigilator confirmed that she had taken a break during the examination. “The girl is presently not in a position to talk and is undergoing treatment in hospital due to bleeding. Preliminary information is that, since she was suffering with stomach pain, she went to the washroom, and it was there she delivered the stillborn baby girl,” Palvancha station house officer Satish Kumar told TOI. After giving birth to the stillborn baby, the student returned to the examination hall and continued writing her exam. College authorities later informed her parents. “Who impregnated her is yet to be known. Once we get details, a criminal case will be registered against the accused person for violation of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act,” police said. The infant was shifted for a post-mortem examination. Doctors suspect the foetus was around six months old.
