Anantnag, Kashmir: A 16-year-old boy drowned in the Lidder River in the Chee area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Sunday, officials said.
The deceased was identified as Barik Bilal, son of Bilal Ahmed Sofi and a resident of Laram Ganjipora, Anantnag. The incident reportedly occurred at Dar Mohalla in Chee.
Soon after receiving information about the incident, a team of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Anantnag, launched a search and rescue operation with the assistance of local residents.
After sustained search efforts, the SDRF team recovered the boy’s body from the river. The body was subsequently handed over to the local police for completion of legal formalities.
