Gandhinagar: In reply to several questions asked by MLAs in the assembly, govt said that 1,557 samples of edible items failed quality tests in the state during the past 2 years.The highest number of edible items that failed tests was in Surat (326), followed by Ahmedabad (232) and Vadodara (229), a compilation of data by the Congress party said.In reply to another question, govt said that three laboratories are functional in the state for testing edible items and medicines, and these are located at Vadodara, Rajkot and Bhuj.Govt said that administrative approval was received for setting up new testing laboratories at Gandhinagar or Ahmedabad, Mehsana, Junagadh and Valsad.
