Mysuru: A 15-year-old elephant died after getting trapped in an electric wire fence in Doddaharave village, Periyapatna taluk, Saturday.Nagarahole forest officers said the elephant had entered a field to feed on a jowar crop when it came in contact with an electric current and died. Foresters registered cases under the Wildlife Protection Act, while Bylakuppe police booked the landowner.

The elephant reportedly entered the field around midnight in search of food and got caught in a live wire installed to protect the corn crop, dying on the spot. Villagers discovered the carcass in the morning and alerted the forest department and panchayat officials.Forest personnel visited the site and began an investigation. Initial findings indicate the elephant died due to the illegal electric wire.
