In a bold move to enhance medical facilities, Bihar’s health minister unveiled plans for a major upgrade at IGIMS Patna, with the addition of 1,450 beds slated for the next fiscal year. This initiative aims to elevate patient care and decrease waiting periods significantly. Meanwhile, Sadar hospitals are also set for transformation into super-specialty centers.

Patna: Health minister Mangal Pandey on Friday said 1,450 new beds will be added to the IGIMS Patna in the next financial year to ensure that patients receive timely treatment without facing long waits. They also said all sadar hospitals are being developed into super specialist hospitals in the state. “Work on this plan has already begun in a few districts,” he said.The minister was responding to the concerns expressed by the members of the legislative assembly during Question Hour. He said the state govt has already expanded the IGIMS from a 500-bed hospital to 2,000-bed facility and will further do so to address the growing pressure on its emergency and intensive care units.

Responding to BJP, JD(U) and Congress MLAs, Pandey said altogether 50,284 patients have been admitted and treated at the IGIMS in this financial year. “Two blocks with 250 beds each have already been built and one block has been made operational. Another building with a capacity of 1,200 beds will be completed by next financial year. Once the remaining 250 beds in the 500-bed building are functional and the 1,200-bed facility is completed, the total number of new beds will reach 1,450,” he said.JD(U) member Manjeet Kumar Singh raised issue of the CT-scan machine lying idle at the PMCH. The minister said it will be operational after the approval of Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB), which is examining it. He also said technicians for MRI and CT-scan machines in the PMCH will be recruited soon.BJP MLA Jibesh Kumar said over 3,000 viscera reports are pending across the state for over three years, which have caused immense delay in forensic investigation reports and impact the judicial process. The delay also denies timely justice and compensation to the accident victims and their families, he said.RJD MLA Kumar Sarvjeet requested the govt to modify its rules regarding postmortems not being conducted after 5pm in case of accidental deaths.
