T’puram: City police booked 14 persons during a special drive conducted against illegal vehicle racing and traffic violations in different parts of the capital city.The inspections were carried out on Saturday and Sunday under the direction of city police commissioner K Karthick. The special enforcement drive was conducted within the limits of the Cantonment, Fort, Shanghumugham and cyber city subdivisions of Thiruvananthapuram city police.Police teams inspected several two-wheelers, cars and other vehicles on major city roads as part of efforts to prevent dangerous racing and reckless riding. During the inspection, police registered cases against motorists for offences including drunk driving, creating traffic obstruction and other violations of traffic rules.According to police, the drive was organised following repeated complaints from public regarding reckless racing by youngsters, especially during night hours. Police said such activities pose a serious threat to pedestrians and other road users.The commissioner said surveillance would be intensified in the coming days to prevent illegal racing activities in the city.
