The seven villages were incorporated into VMC limits in 2020

Vadodara: Six years after seven peripheral villages were brought within the Vadodara Municipal Corporation limits, their primary schools are now set to come under the civic body’s education wing. The VMC general board, scheduled to meet on Thursday, will consider a proposal to bring 13 primary schools in the seven villages under the Nagar Prathmik Shikshan Samiti, along with their teaching staff. The seven villages — Sevasi, Bhayli, Vemali, Bill, Karodiya, Undera and Vadadala — were incorporated into VMC limits in 2020, adding around 40 sqkm and a population of nearly two lakh to the city.According to the agenda, the 13 primary schools have 92 teachers, whose salary expenditure will be shared between the state government and VMC. Under the proposed arrangement, the state government will bear 80% of the salary expenditure, while VMC will have to shoulder the remaining 20%.The move is part of the administrative transition following the merger of the villages with the civic limits. The proposal placed before the general board seeks approval for the inclusion of the schools and the corresponding financial responsibility for their teaching staff. The seven villages were among the fastest-growing peripheral areas of Vadodara when they were brought into VMC limits in 2020, with extensive residential and real-estate development already taking place there. The civic body had previously taken over certain municipal responsibilities in these newly incorporated areas, including sanitation-related services.
