Varanasi: A cricket match between children in Bhadohi turned fatal after a 12-year-old boy was allegedly beaten to death with a cricket bat by a 14-year-old following an argument over a no-ball in Bhanipur village under the Durgaganj police station area on Wednesday. The accused, a juvenile, has been taken into custody.According to police, the incident occurred during a cricket match at Ambedkar Park in Bhanipur village. The two boys, studying in Classes VII and VIII, got into an argument over a no-ball. As the dispute escalated, the 14-year-old allegedly struck the 12-year-old on the head with a cricket bat.The injured boy began bleeding profusely and was rushed by his family to a private hospital, where doctors declared him dead.On receiving information, Durgaganj police reached the spot. SHO Manoj Kumar said the juvenile accused has been taken into custody. Based on a complaint lodged by the victim’s family, an FIR has been registered under the relevant sections of law. After completing the inquest proceedings, the body was sent for postmortem examination.Circle officer (Bhadohi) Sumit Tripathi said a dispute broke out among the children while they were playing cricket, during which one boy sustained serious injuries and later died at the hospital. He said police are investigating the incident from all angles.Since the accused is a minor, he will be produced before the Juvenile Justice Board in accordance with legal provisions. Further proceedings regarding his placement in a juvenile reform home will be initiated as per law.
