Amritsar: The Amritsar Commissionerate police has recovered over 111.5 kg of heroin, registered 1,137 NDPS cases and arrested over 2,000 suspects in the past seven months, Amritsar police commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said on Wednesday.Bhullar told the media that under the anti-gangster campaign, ‘Gangstran Te Vaar’, police registered 63 Arms Act cases and arrested 153 suspects. The sustained crackdown led to the recovery of 209 pistols, two revolvers, eight rifles and guns, 221 magazines, 536 live cartridges, and Rs 3.80 lakh linked to hawala transactions. As part of the ongoing ‘Yudh Nashean Virudh’ campaign, police registered 1,137 NDPS cases, arrested 1,898 suspects and recovered 111.55 kg of heroin, 11.43 kg of methamphetamine, 9.24 kg of opium and 2.24 kg of charas among other drugs since Jan. Bhullar further said to strengthen investigations and crime detection, police have integrated advanced technology with traditional policing. He added that the Punjab Artificial Intelligence System (PAIS) is being used for identity verification, while the VAHAN database enables instant vehicle verification during nakas and search operations.
