Gandhinagar: On the eve of National Immunisation Day, which will be observed on Monday, the state govt said that between April 2025 and Feb 2026, 11.3 lakh infants aged under one year were fully vaccinated. In addition, 24 lakh children were vaccinated under the kindergarten and school vaccination programme, the govt said on Sunday.
An official statement said that in the current financial year, 11.94 lakh children received the BCG vaccine, 11.59 lakh received the pentavalent (DPT-Hepatitis B-Hib) vaccine, and 11.24 lakh received the measles-rubella vaccine.
The govt said that under the school and kindergarten-based vaccination campaign launched jointly by the health and education departments, 24 lakh children were vaccinated. Under this campaign, students aged between 10 and 16 years were vaccinated in schools, while five-year-old children received the second dose of DPT in kindergartens. The statement said that special campaigns for polio immunisation in 14 districts in 2025 administered polio drops to 24.65 lakh children aged 0 to five years.
On the occasion of National Vaccination Day on Monday, the govt launched an intensive day-long campaign for measles-rubella eradication. Based on real-time data from the Vaccine Preventable Disease Surveillance Information Management System (VSIMS) and Integrated Disease Surveillance Program (IDSP) portal, the state health department has identified high-risk areas for measles-rubella vaccination, the govt said.
Under the HPV (Human papillomavirus) vaccination campaign launched last month by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the state govt vaccinated adolescent girls aged 14 to 15 years. The statement said that this vaccine costs between Rs 3,000 and Rs 5,000, which the state govt provided free to protect girls from cervical cancer.
