Hyderabad: In anticipation of a possible El Niño impact, the Congress govt has appointed 10 senior IAS officers as special officers for Telangana’s 10 erstwhile districts to monitor rainfall, water availability, agriculture and other critical sectors.The special officers will monitor seasonal conditions, with a focus on rainfall, reservoir storage, groundwater levels, drinking water availability, the status of agriculture and horticulture crops, power supply and other key indicators. They have been directed to ensure effective coordination among various departments to mitigate the impact of seasonal challenges.The officers will visit their allotted districts and assist district in-charge ministers in conducting review meetings with public representatives and senior officials. Chief minister A Revanth Reddy will subsequently chair a state-level review meeting with ministers and the special officers.They will continue to monitor the situation in coordination with district collectors and senior officials of state departments.The appointed IAS officers for the 10 combned districts are Jayesh Ranjan (Hyderabad), Vikas Raj (Ranga Reddy), Benhur Mahesh Dutt Ekka (Karimnagar), A Vani Prasad (Medak), Yogita Rana (Nizamabad), Harichandana Dasari (Nalgonda), Ilambarithi K (Adilabad), A Sridevasena (Warangal), V P Gautham (Mahbubnagar) and Anudeep Durishetty (Khammam).The state govt has also drawn up a detailed agenda for the district review meetings, which will cover weather forecasts, crop progress, contingency plans, irrigation storage, groundwater status, power supply, drinking water management, livestock preparedness and district-specific agricultural advisories.
