Patna: A 24-year-old youth died, while another sustained serious injuries after a speeding truck rammed into their bike at Belwan Mor under Meskaur police station area in Nawada district on Monday morning. The victim had visited his grandmother’s house and was returning home when the incident took place.The deceased was identified as Dheeraj Kumar, a resident of Bhairav Bigha village in Nalanda district. His injured friend, Santosh Kumar, has been admitted to Nawada sadar hospital for treatment.
According to eyewitnesses, the accident occurred around 6am when the truck driver took a sharp turn without switching on the indicator. The biker coming from behind lost control and was hit by the vehicle. After the crash, the truck driver fled the spot.A large number of local residents gathered at the site and set the truck on fire. They also blocked the road for nearly two hours. Police later managed to pacify the crowd and restore traffic.“The deceased was identified through the ID card found in his wallet. His family members have been informed. We are trying to trace the owner and driver using the truck’s registration number,” said Roshan Kumar, the sub-inspector present at the spot.
