GURGAON: A 28-year-old man died and three others were injured after the roof of a house in Dundahera village collapsed on Friday night, police said. The owner and caretaker of the building have been arrested in connection with the case, an officer added.The deceased, Satish Mali, a tenant, got buried under debris when the roof caved in around 8.30pm. Another tenant, Ravi Jha, sustained serious injuries in the incident and was referred to Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi. The two other injured, Rahul Kumar and his wife Kirti, were passing by the area on their bike when chunks of stone from the balcony broke and struck them.According to a complaint filed by Shravan Mali, the brother of the deceased, the occupants repeatedly warned the house owner, Omprakash and caretaker Rakesh, about rainwater seepage in the structure and the risk of collapse. Allegedly, even then no repairs were carried out. The tenants were also not allowed to vacate the house so that the owner did not lose rent.Satish Mali, the deceased.After the collapse, panicked residents gathered at the spot, helped the victims buried under the debris and informed the police control room.Police said they received information about a house collapse and multiple people being buried under debris. A team rushed to the spot but found that the injured had already been shifted to Civil Hospital in Sector 10.Medical examination reports confirmed multiple injuries to the victims. Satish was declared dead on arrival. Rahul sustained six injuries and Kirti four, and both were declared unfit to give a police statement.Based on Shravan’s complaint and the medical reports, a case was registered at Udyog Vihar police station under sections 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) and 125 (rash or negligent acts that endanger human life or personal safety) of the BNS.Police initiated an investigation and said further action will follow after examining the role of the owner and caretaker.
