Patna: A person was beaten to death and another injured after a mob caught two of three men who allegedly opened fire at a resident of Laxmichak village under Gaurichak police station area on Tuesday night.According to police, the three men targeted Suresh Singh alias Master, a resident of Laxmichak, over a land dispute and fired several rounds at him. Singh escaped unhurt. After the firing, the three allegedly tried to flee, but villagers chased them and caught two of them. The two men were then severely beaten by the mob.Police teams from Gaurichak and Parsa Bazaar police stations reached the spot, rescued the two injured men and took them to hospital. One of them later died during treatment. Police said an FIR was filed against unidentified persons for attacking the three.The two men were identified as Vivek Kumar (22) and Suraj Kumar (28). Both were admitted to Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH), where Suraj succumbed to his injuries. Vivek is undergoing treatment.SDPO (Sadar-II) Ranjan Kumar said police reached the spot soon after receiving information about the incident. “During the investigation, we found that the three men had fled towards Dhamoul village under Parsa Bazaar police station area. When police reached there, villagers had caught two of them, while the third had escaped. Raids are being conducted at possible hideouts to arrest him,” he said.Police recovered two live cartridges, an empty cartridge shell and a motorcycle from the spot. Preliminary investigation revealed that the motorcycle had allegedly been stolen from Phulwari Sharif police station area, police said.An FSL team collected scientific evidence from the scene, while police are scanning CCTV footage from nearby areas to identify the people who attacked the three.“Preliminary investigation suggests that the incident was linked to a land dispute between two groups in the village. All other angles are being probed,” the SDPO said.
