Aizawl: Mizoram excise & marcotics department, in a joint operation with volunteers of the Central Anti Drugs Squad (CADS) of the Young Mizo Association (YMA), seized 971 grams of heroin at Sihphir Neihbawi village near Aizawl on Tuesday from the possession of four people.State excise & narcotics department spokesperson Peter Zohmingthanga said four persons — Daniel Malsawmdawngliana (47) of Zokhawthar in Champhai district, Suwar Uddin Laskar (47) of Rajghat/Bagha in Cachar district of Assam, Basir Uddin Laskar (26) of Rajghat/Bagha in Cachar district of Assam, and Hifjul Bahar (27) of Bhitargool in Karimganj district of Assam—were arrested.Investigators said the arrested persons told officials the contraband was brought from Zokhawthar village to be sold in Assam. Two vehicles allegedly used to transport the heroin were also seized.The accused have been booked under Section 21(c) of the Narcotic Drugs & Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985, and produced before the Special Court (NDPS Act), Aizawl District, Aizawl.In a separate case, police in Mizoram’s Saitual district, bordering Manipur, seized 587 grams of heroin at Keifang town in the early hours of Monday. Police said the heroin was recovered from a woman passenger travelling in a car from Churachandpur in Manipur towards Aizawl.Police said a woman constable conducted a physical check of the suspect, identified as Nengshi Haokip (51) of Salbung in Churachandpur, and found the contraband concealed under her garments. A case was registered at Saitual Police Station under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs & Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985.
