Mandya: Youth must cultivate humanitarian and ethical values along with positive thinking to contribute meaningfully to society and politics, said K Shivachittappa, vice-chancellor of Mandya University.Speaking after inaugurating the district-level ‘Viksit Bharat Youth Talent Competition’ and ‘Viksit Bharat Youth Connectivity Programme: Youth Parliament 2026′ at the university’s Syndicate Hall on Thursday, the vice-chancellor stressed that youth should develop a broader understanding of social and political issues through critical thinking.The meet was organised by the district administration, zilla panchayat, Mandya University, My Bharat Mandya, the National Service Scheme (NSS), and the DYES.Referring to the ideals of Swami Vivekananda, he urged students to participate in nation-building. Initiatives such as the youth parliament play a crucial role in creating political awareness and leadership qualities among young people, he noted.Om Prakash, assistant director, DYES, said the department offers several schemes aimed at empowering young people. He encouraged students to take advantage of these opportunities and emphasised that awareness of the fundamental rights and duties enshrined in the Constitution helps individuals lead a dignified life in society.Registrar of Mandya University Krishna Kumar urged the youth to resolve to become self-reliant, whether through govt employment or entrepreneurship. He advised students to deepen their understanding of constitutional values and continuously enhance their knowledge.
