Mohali: A 23-year-old youth was killed after his motorcycle was allegedly hit by a speeding truck near a petrol pump on Patiala-Chandigarh Road in the early hours of Saturday. Police have registered a case against the unidentified truck driver and launched a manhunt.The deceased was identified as Sunil Kumar (23), a native of Siura village in Chamba district, Himachal Pradesh, who was residing in Sector 42, Attawa, Chandigarh. He was employed as a bartender in Zirakpur.His brother, Tarun Kumar, said he received a call around 3am from Parminder Kumar, a resident of Bhabat village, informing him that Sunil had met with an accident.As per the police, Parminder stated he was travelling in his car while Sunil was riding his motorcycle back to his rented accommodation. Near a petrol pump on the highway, a truck bearing a Tamil Nadu registration number allegedly rammed into the motorcycle at high speed. The impact threw Sunil onto the road, causing critical injuries. The truck driver reportedly fled the spot immediately after the collision.The injured youth was rushed to a private hospital in Zirakpur and later referred to GMCH-32, Chandigarh, where doctors declared him brought dead. A case was registered against the truck driver under relevant sections of BNS. Police said efforts are underway to trace the absconding driver and seize the vehicle. MSID:: 128678829 413 |
