Surat: A 20-year-old man was killed by his cousin in Rander on Wednesday evening when about 15 family members had gathered for their iftar meal. Rander police arrested the accused before he could flee to Maharashtra.Sultan Ahmed Shaikh had come from Malegaon to the home of his maternal uncle, Aminuddin Shaikh, in Rander with his mother, Nazma, and his sister. His maternal aunt was also visiting with her family. “On Wednesday evening, when about 15 members of the family were having the iftar meal, the accused, Allarakha Shaikh, 22, the victim’s cousin, passed a comment about Nazma. This angered Sultan and he remonstrated. The two then quarrelled in front of the others. Seething, Allarakha went to the kitchen, got a knife and stabbed Sultan in the chest two times before the others could intervene. Sultan was rushed to a hospital but could not be saved,” Rander inspector R J Chaudhary said. After the stabbing, Allarakha packed his bag and was preparing to leave for Malegaon when police apprehended him based on technical and human surveillance. The investigation is underway based on Nazma’s complaint.
