Lucknow: Leveraging technology-driven policing, the UP Police has recorded significant breakthroughs in crime control using the Yaksh App, a smart policing tool developed to enhance surveillance, investigation and suspect tracking.The application was conceptualised under the supervision of director general of police Rajeev Krishna.In a major success, Rae Bareli police busted a vehicle theft gang using the app and recovered five stolen vehicles. The case dates back to Feb 16, when an SUV was reported stolen from the Bachhrawan area. A case was registered and under the supervision of superintendent of police Ravi Kumar, the investigation team utilised the Yaksh App to identify CCTV cameras near the crime scene. Analysis suggested the involvement of suspects from Mau.Police identified a key accused, Pradeep, who was arrest along with his associates on Mar 16.In another breakthrough, Firozabad police used the Yaksh App’s facial recognition feature to arrest a murder accused absconding for nearly a decade.The accused, Sanoj, son of Pancham Singh, was wanted in a 2016 murder case registered at Linepar police station. Acting under the direction of SSP Saurabh Dixit, police verified the suspect through the Yaksh App on Mar 7, and traced his location. The app’s photo-matching technology confirmed his true identity as Sanoj. He was arrested on Mar 15.Krishna lauded both district police teams for their effective use of the application and directed all districts to ensure its proactive deployment in crime detection and prevention.
