Ponda: Although govt has approved the augmentation of Mhaisal water treatment plant, the water resources department (WRD) is yet to decide about sourcing of water to meet the need of another 10 million litres of water per day.Local MLA and WRD minister Subhash Shirodkar said they would meet next week to decide on sourcing water to augmented the plant capacity.WRD was looking to source raw water from Mirabag, Sanvordem, by constructing a bandhara. However, as the Mirabag locals are against the construction of a bandhara, the department will have to deliberate on other source of water. The water treatment plant on Mhaisal dam at Gawaliwada atop Panchawadi hill in Shiroda has been functioning since 2018. Being one of the smaller dam in the state, the Mhaisal dam faces water scarcity especially in summer. The govt is planning to enhance the water treatment capacity by increasing the number of filter beds. The plant has six filter beds and it would need another four beds to enhance the filtration and treatment capacity.
