Pune: Two women clad in a burqa visited a jewellery store in Kondhwa and stole four gold bangles worth Rs 5.2 lakh. The women, posing as customers, replaced the bangles with fake ones when the salesperson’s attention was diverted.The incident occurred in a jewellery store near Talab Masjid in Kondhwa around 7.30pm on June 22.The jewellery store manager registered a complaint relating to theft with the Kondhwa police on Sunday night.Assistant inspector Rakesh Jadhav on Monday said, “The salesperson turned around to show more jewellery to the women when one of them stole the gold bangles from the display tray while her accomplice planted fake bangles and walked out of the store without purchasing any jewellery.”Jadhav said, “The theft came to light when the salesperson tried to sell the same fake bangles to another customer, who suspected their genuineness. The salesperson then reported the incident to the store owner, following which they checked CCTV cameras and found the replacement.”A police team is analysing CCTV footage to establish the identity of the two women. “We hope to detect the case at the earliest,” Jadhav said.
