Nagpur: A highly-decomposed body of a woman, aged around 35 years, was found in a locked room at a private farm in Nara Vasti, Jaripatka area of north Nagpur, on Sunday morning sparking suspicions of foul play, possibly rape and murder. The matter came to light around 7am when Sonu alias Golu Jibhe (30), a helper employed at the farm for the past 10 years, informed the owner Moreshwar Talekar (63), a resident of Nara Vasti, about spotting half-naked body of a woman in room No. 4.A part of the seven-acre farm is leased for a brick kiln while five rooms are used for storing cattle fodder, with some occupied by tenants. Talekar rushed to the spot and found the body infested with maggots, indicating significant decomposition. The owner immediately alerted Jaripatka police station. Police officers documented the scene and shifted the body to Mayo Hospital for autopsy and further procedures. Police have initially registered accidental death in the matter.Zonal DCP Sandeep Pakhale said the body seem to be wrapped in a traditional attire, such as a saree. “The body decomposed to such an extent that visible injuries were obliterated. The autopsy will determine the exact cause of death,” Pakhale said, adding that police have some leads regarding the woman’s identification.Preliminary investigation suggests that the woman died four days ago, possibly during Holi. Senior officials suspect it could be a case of rape and murder. “We suspect she had a companion who spent time with her in the isolated storeroom before her death,” a source said adding, the farm’s isolated location, with broken doors in some rooms and limited regular oversight, raised questions about how the woman ended up there.Cops are questioning the servant, tenants, and landowner while examining CCTV footage (if any) and forensic evidence.
