Thiruvananthapuram: Body of an unidentified woman was found washed ashore at Veli beach on Saturday morning under suspicious circumstances. Thumba police said the deceased appear to be between the age group of 40 and 50. Her hands were found tied together with a bandage, raising suspicions of foul play. Blood was also seen clotted near her nose. Preliminary assessment suggests that the body was about a day old.
The body was first spotted floating in the sea near Veli church by local fishermen in the early hours of Saturday. They immediately alerted police. A team from Thumba police station reached the spot and conducted a preliminary inspection. After completing inquest procedures, the body was shifted to mortuary at medical college hospital for postmortem examination. Police said they were investigating the possibility that the woman may have been murdered and her body later dumped in the sea. Efforts are under way to establish the identity of the deceased. Police are also verifying missing person complaints registered in nearby police station limits as part of the inquiry.
