Ahmedabad: A woman from Shahibaug sought Abhayam helpline intervention after her husband installed CCTV cameras in all rooms of the residence on suspicion of her infidelity. She was locked out of her home by her husband after a tiff.“When we reached the spot, the woman was out of her home with her children. She told the counsellors that their marriage period was four years. It was the second marriage for both husband and wife. The husband’s earlier wife allegedly left him after his excessively possessive nature. He was counselled by her relatives on the issue, but to no avail. To keep an eye on her, he installed cameras, including in their bedroom,” said a counsellor. The woman said that when he could not find anything on her, he started alleging that she was careless and picking fights. “When counselled, the man told the team that he did not want to be with her and accused her of switching off lights and cameras. The woman, tired of the drama, also decided to press charges. She was guided to lodge a formal complaint against her husband,” said a counsellor.Counsellors said that in the past few months, they have seen a rise in the number of cases where the women accuse their husbands of keeping a constant watch on them due to suspicion of extramarital affairs. “In majority of these cases, we counsel the men that there is no remedy for suspicion, and if they have no substantial proof, they must not level such allegations,” said a counsellor.
