Lucknow: A woman who claimed to be the wife of a senior high court judge to secure VIP protocol at Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences (RMLIMS), was booked for cheating, police said on Tuesday. The accused Ranjana Rai visited the orthopaedics department of the institute on Nov 26 along with her daughter and approached the PRO’s office where she introduced herself as the spouse of a senior judge, requesting protocol assistance for her consultation. Assistant PRO Nimisha Sonkar alerted the protocol desk, after which staffer Avinash Rai initiated verification. When officials contacted the HC’s protocol wing, they learned that no such request was made and the woman falsely claimed the identity. The hospital denied protocol services and reported the matter. On Nov 27, joint registrar (protocol) Shailendra Kumar filed an FIR at Vibhuti Khand police station. Inspector Amar Singh said the FIR includes charges of cheating and impersonation. “The woman’s mobile number was provided by the hospital and efforts are underway to trace her,” he said. Police said CCTV footage is being examined to establish her movements within the institute.
