Bengaluru: A 22-year-old homemaker allegedly died by suicide over a marital row in Yelahanka Saturday afternoon, triggering allegations of dowry harassment. The deceased has been identified as Shruthi. Her husband Pawan Kalyan, a private bank employee, found her hanging in a room in their house. He untied the noose and rushed her to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared her dead on arrival. Shruthi and Kalyan, who are relatives, are natives of Pavagada taluk in Tumakuru district. Married 16 months ago, the couple lived in a rented house in Yelahanka. According to Shruthi’s family, the couple had disputes. However, both families had reportedly intervened recently, asking them to resolve differences and continue living together. Kalyan told police that he had stepped out briefly and, on returning, found Shruthi hanging. However, according to Shruthi’s father, their daughter had been harassed over dowry by her husband and in-laws. The family claimed the harassment had been ongoing for several months and had driven her to take the extreme step. Based on the complaint, Yelahanka New Town Police Station has registered a case of dowry death and is questioning Kalyan.
