Patna: A 29-year-old woman was arrested on Thursday for allegedly killing her 35-year-old husband with the help of her lover in Muzaffarpur district. The victim’s body was found lying in a pool of blood on a roadside on Tuesday night. Following the incident, the family of the deceased man filed a written complaint against his wife, her brother and her lover at the Town police station.According to police, the deceased was identified as Manoj Kumar, a resident of the Town police station area. He had been married to Nishu Kumari for around 10 years, and the couple had two daughters, aged seven and five. Nishu was reportedly in an illicit relationship with a man she had met on a social media platform. When Manoj came to know about the affair, he confronted her, leading to a heated argument that allegedly resulted in a conspiracy to eliminate him.A police statement from Muzaffarpur said Nishu met Mantu Kumar, a neighbour, through social media nearly two years ago. Their friendship later turned into a love affair. In her husband’s absence, Nishu and Mantu would meet outside. On Diwali in 2025, Manoj saw Nishu and Mantu riding a scooter together. When he questioned her, she allegedly abused and threatened to kill him. The matter was later settled within the family.On Monday, Nishu posted a photo with Mantu on a social media group. One of Manoj’s friends showed him the picture. Enraged, Manoj rushed home and asked for Nishu’s cellphone. She refused, claiming the phone had no SIM card. When Manoj confronted her with the photo, she allegedly tried to strangle him.On Tuesday morning, Manoj sent the picture of Nishu and her lover to his brother-in-law, Chhotu Kumar, and his father-in-law. After learning this, Nishu fled from home. Later that night, Mantu reportedly called Manoj on the pretext of meeting him. Manoj went to the location where he was asked to come. Sometime later, locals informed police that he was lying on the road with his throat slit.Town SDPO Suresh Kumar said, “The deceased’s mother and aunt had already expressed suspicion against Nishu, based on which an FIR was registered at the Town police station. Police also took help from the FSL team to investigate the case and arrested Nishu. She has confessed to the murder.”He added that the accused wife has been sent to judicial custody, and raids are underway to arrest Mantu and Nishu’s brother, Chhotu.
