T’puram: A 50-year-old woman was killed and three members of her family were injured after the car they were travelling in lost control and crashed into a roadside wall at Palachira near Varkala on Saturday.The deceased was Laila, 50, a native of Palachira. Her husband Hameed Kunju, 65, who was driving the vehicle, son Shafin, 30, and grandson Abdul Rehaman, 17, sustained serious injuries and are undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Varkala.
According to police, the car suddenly went out of control and rammed into a wall with considerable force, completely wrecking the vehicle. Locals rushed to the spot and immediately launched rescue operations, pulling out those trapped inside the mangled car. The injured were rushed to hospital, but Laila was declared dead on arrival, police said. Doctors said the condition of the injured remains serious, and they are currently being treated in the ICU. Varkala police registered a case and initiated an investigation to ascertain the cause of the accident. Meanwhile, the body was shifted to the medical college hospital for postmortem examination.
