Ghaziabad: A 40-year-old woman, Leela Devi, was killed when she tried to intervene in a fight involving her son and was hit on the head with a brick in Masuri’s Bhudgadhi village. The fight took place between the deceased’s son and a fellow villager over wages. Police said no complaint has been lodged by the victim’s family in the matter but investigation in undderway. According to ACP (Masuri) Lipi Nagayach, Devi’s son, Anil Kumar (20), had gone to another villager on Sunday afternoon to collect Rs 1,400 in wages. Subsequently, a dispute broke out between the two over the money.The accused, along with an accomplice, allegedly started beating up Kumar. When Devi found out about the fight, she went to rescue her son, and was injured in the process. “Someone from the area informed Devi about her son’s fight. Immediately, she rushed to the spot and tried to save him. She registered her protest with the accused and asked for her son to be released. But the accused started misbehaving with her. Although she somehow managed to rescue her son, in the process, the accused struck her on the head with a brick. This caused serious injuries, leaving her drenched in blood,” the ACP said. Her family members said that after returning home, she fell asleep. On Monday morning, when she did not wake up, they took her to a nearby hospital, but was declared dead on arrival. The ACP said the body has been sent for autopsy and reports are awaited. A team has been formed to investigate the matter.
